Connecting Your POS System
Connecting your point-of-sale (POS) system lets ReRoute AI compare what you sold against what you issued out of inventory -- this is what powers the Waste Dashboard. Without a POS connection, waste tracking can only use what you record manually.
What POS integration does
- Your POS sends sales data to ReRoute AI (menu item, quantity, timestamp).
- Each sold item is matched to a recipe or a direct product mapping, which tells the system how much of each ingredient the sale should have used.
- That expected usage is compared against the real transfers and stock-outs you record, producing the waste numbers on the Waste Dashboard.
Connecting a POS never changes your inventory directly -- sales only ever feed the theoretical side of the waste calculation. Your recorded movements (transfers, stock-outs) remain the source of truth for what actually left storage.
Current status
Self-service POS connection (for example, connecting a Square account directly from the app) is on our roadmap and not yet available to configure yourself. If you'd like your POS connected, contact your ReRoute AI representative or support -- our team can help set this up for your property.
In the meantime, you can still get value from waste tracking without a live POS connection:
- Keep recording accurate transfers and stock-out movements into your kitchens and bars (see How to Receive Inventory and How to Create a Transfer).
- Build out recipes for your menu items (see How to Scan a Recipe) so usage can eventually be reconciled once sales data is connected.
Coverage on the Waste Dashboard reflects how much of your usage can currently be matched to a known product -- this will rise once your POS is connected and matched to your recipes.
